A Woman’s Seed to Meet Man’s Need
Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit. 19 Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not wanting to make her a public example, was minded to put her away secretly. 20 But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. 21 And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.” 22 So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying: 23 “Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.” Matthew 1:18-23 NKJV
The conception and birth of Jesus Christ were supernatural events that defy logic and reason. Because of this brainteaser, if you will, God sent an angel to Mary and He gave Joseph a dream to help them both understand the significance of what was happening. Mary, although she was a young poor female, seemed an unlikely candidate to give birth to the world’s only hope for salvation, i.e., Jesus Christ, King of kings and Lord of lords. But the promise was that she would give birth to a man-child conceived by her “seed” and the Holy Spirit.
During her engagement before marriage, her legally considered husband, Joseph, was a righteous man who was faced with a difficult choice: (1) Feel embarrassed and humiliated and have her stoned under the Law of Moses (Lev. 20:10); (2) quietly divorce her and not expose her to public disgrace and shame; or, (3) overcome his fear, obey God and marry her. But he thought about these things because an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.” Like Joseph, when a decision affects the lives of others, you should always seek God’s wisdom (Prov. 4:7; 3:5-6).
Jesus was conceived by the Holy Spirit born by the “seed” of Mary as God in the flesh without any trace of sin in His DNA because His Father was God, the Holy Spirit. This miracle was performed in fulfillment of the first Messianic prophecy (Gen. 3:15) and later prophesized again by the Prophet Isaiah: “Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel” (Isa. 7:14). God used Mary’s seed (chromosome X and God’s Holy chromosome Y) to create a holy sinless “XY” chromosome pair that combined to create a male embryo which would grow and be birthed as a Son to meet mankind’s need of a perfect Savior (see Gen. 1:27), Jesus Christ, the promised One who was both Man and God was God manifested in the flesh (John 1:14) because God used a woman’s “seed” to meet man’s need!
