Money Won’t Change You
Then Peter said, “Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.” 7 And he took him by the right hand and lifted him up, and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength. 8 So he, leaping up, stood and walked and entered the temple with them — walking, leaping, and praising God. Acts 3:6-8 NKJV
Often, many believers think that if they only had more money things would be better in their lives. Whether you’re broke, bound, oppressed, sick or lame– just know–there are some things money can’t buy; and, there’s nothing God can give you that He hasn’t already given you. Why? We are heirs of God and joint-heirs with Christ (Rom. 8:17). All that the Father has is ours now (Luke 15:31). So, you need to shift your attention from money to something that will remove you from being a “beggar” forever. Money won’t change you!
Unlike the lame man, whose faith wasn’t in God healing him but rather in the alms (money) given to him by those who walked by the “Gate Beautiful” on their way to the Temple at the hour of prayer. We must put our trust in God—not money (Job 31:24, 28). We cannot serve God and mammon (Aramaic for wealth and money, Matt. 6:24). Neither silver nor gold shall be able to deliver in the day of the Lord’s wrath (Zeph. 1:18; Ezek. 7:19). No matter how much money the lame beggar received, it couldn’t cure his lameness. The Scriptures further warns us that “he that loves silver will not be satisfied with silver” (Eccles. 5:10). No matter how much money you have, or think you need, it seems to be never enough.
But you might ask, “doesn’t money answer all things? (See Eccles. 10:19). Money is a medium of exchange for obtaining things, goods and services, but throwing money at your problems will not solve them. Money is the answer for “things.” But money cannot heal you or cure you of a “lame” condition in life. Only God can heal and make you whole. Only God’s power can lift you up and strengthen you, and make you walk, leap, and praise God. Money doesn’t change us; it reveals us (Matt. 6:21). We live in a day and time where men love money more than God (2 Tim. 3:2) mistakenly believing that money will change them; but their love of money is the root of evil (1 Tim. 6:10). Money won’t change you!
