God’s Message to Husbands

But I want you to know that the head of every man is Christ, the head of woman is man, and the head of Christ is God. 1 Cor. 11:3-4 NKJV

Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body. Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything. Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her,  that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word (Eph 5:22-26 NKJV)

Every member in a Christian home has a place, role and responsibility.  Let’s begin with the most important one—the husband: the head of the family is the husband. He has the responsibility to shepherd the home like Christ shepherds the Church. Included among these responsibilities, husbands are to be visionaries providing direction for his family; he is also called to be the priest, provider, protector, and the one who primarily brings correction into the home (Eph. 6:4).

The husband’s attitude, as the head of the family, is to be like Christ’s attitude in the Church (Phil. 2:7, 8): Jesus Christ was a King but He did not take on the reputation of a king. Rather, he took upon Himself the form of a servant; He was made in the likeness of man; thus, husbands must regard their wives with equality and mutuality (1 Peter 3:7); Christ willingly humbled Himself and was obedient unto death.

In addition to husbands having a Christ-like attitude, husbands are to love their wives as Christ loves the church (Eph. 5: 25; 1 Cor. 13:4-8). In a Christian home, the husband must set the moral and spiritual standards for his family. In his role as the head of the family, he also must give family members the security of a protected, joyful, peaceful and secure home atmosphere.
